Cannot connect to \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query

you can still perform the same steps in the link you posted whether it's WID or SQL DB. you just connect to the SQL DB using a different command syntax on sqlcmd.exe or you can just use SQL Management Studio and run the command right from the GUI

Can't access Windows Internal Database in SQL Server 2008 ...

Since this is a Windows 2008 server, most likely, the User Access Control is causing the issue. When you want to connect the instance, right click on SSMS and Run as Administrator. And give the above name pipe, you should be able to get in.

How To Administer WSUS WSS Using SQL Server Management ...

Microsoft cautions against "administration" of the Windows Internal Database (WID, formerly named SQL Server Compact Edition or CE) in articles like THIS one. However, there are time when you may want to gain access to it for things like: database moves (because the SQL WID is installed on C: whether you like it or not).
